WHEN FAUJI BLOOD BOILS

WHEN THE FAUJI BLOOD BEGINS TO BOIL IN OUR VEINS -A TRUE KASHATRYA IN YOU EMERGES..

Subject: KILLING THE ENEMY WAS MY DUTY AS A SOLDIER. PROTECTING A WOMAN WAS MY DUTY AS A CITIZEN

On 2nd September 2010, Naik Bishnu Shrestha, 35, of the 7th Batallion of the 8th Regiment, Gorkha Rifles, was returning home on the Maurya Express on retirement, hoping to join his parents and help them at their farm.
As the train entered a deep forest in West Bengal, dacoits masquerading as passengers, brought the train to a halt. Other friends climbed on to the train from the surrounding forests. A total of 40 armed dacoits proceeded to relieve passengers of their jewellery, cash and other valuables. Bishnu decided this wasn't his fight - it wasn't smart to risk death for a thousand bucks. He too handed over his wallet.

Then the dacoits, just for fun, decided to molest an 18 year old girl, sitting in front of Bishnu, travelling with her parents. That is when the legendary madGorkha within him, woke up. He drew his 10-inch blade, regulation issue khukri from his bag, held the girl's attacker in a death grip around the neck, used him as a shield and launched a fearsome attack against 40 armed men, that left three of them dead and eight seriously injured. Not used to the rate at which blood had started flowing in the aisles, the rest of the attackers fled the scene.
At the next station, the police rounded up the surviving dacoits and took Bishnu to hospital, for he had suffered bad blade cuts in his left hand. Bishnurecovered from his injuries after two months. He was immediately brought out of retirement, awarded a medal and Rs. 50,000/-. The entire prize money on the heads of the dacoits killed, injured and later apprehended, was paid to Bishnu. The girl's parents offered Rs. 50,000 to Bishnu, which he refused.
"Killing the enemy was my duty as a soldier. Protecting a woman was my duty as a citizen", he said.
       We salute you Bishnu..
